EASTON IN GORDANO PARISH COUNCIL

Minutes of the Committee meetings on Monday 10 May 2004

Playing Fields Management Committee

Present:

Cllrs Duck, Hunt & Ridley, Mr J. Norval (Junior Football Club),

Mr P. Strother Smith (Clerk).

Apologies:

Cllrs Stowers & Waters.

1.

New Pitches:  Mr Norval said that a petition is being organised by Mr Steve Sayer for submission to North Somerset Council (NSC).

2.

Old Pitches:  The Clerk would speak to Serviceteam about spiking, re-seeding and, possibly, weedkilling the area.  There is still some evidence of moles.  A family 6-a-side tournament is being held on 6 June.   Action PSS

Open Spaces & Amenities Committee

Present:

Cllrs Duck, Hunt & Ridley, Mr P. Strother Smith (Clerk).

Apologies:

Cllrs Jones, Stowers & Waters.

1.

Village/Street Cleaning:  NSC had readily agreed to change the time of day for mechanical sweeping in Back Lane, Station Road, Upper Myrtle Hill, New Road and around the Co-op.

The Clerk would speak to Mrs Hunt, the Village Orderly about the possibility of her adding Back Lane, New Road, Upper & Lower Myrtle Hill and Monmouth Road to her cleaning schedule.  Details of extra hours and cost would be submitted to the next Council meeting.   Action PSS

As a follow up to his telephone conversation, the Clerk would write formally to NSC Housing Department asking them if they would add Hope House to Mrs Hunt’s schedule of duties for them.   Action PSS

2.

New Crossing in Lodway:  The Clerk would write to NSC Highways to ask if they could make the crossing more visible, especially to vehicles travelling towards Pill.   Action PSS

3.

Station Road parking:  The Clerk would contact PC Bartlett for his thoughts about this parking, which was becoming quite an obstruction and could be a problem for fire engines to negotiate through.   Action PSS

Finance & General Purposes Committee

Present:

Cllrs Duck, Hunt, Burchell, Langton, Pritchard & Whiting,

Mr P. Strother Smith (Clerk).

Apologies:

Cllrs Jones & Waters.

1.

Street Lighting improvements:  The requested quotations had been received from SEC Ltd for proposed improvements following the ‘walk round’ in February.  The overall total was £12,664.74 (including estimates for Western Power Distribution’s costs), which was within the budgeted figure of £12,745.

It was agreed to proceed with all quotes except the one for Rudgleigh Avenue where the Clerk would have further discussions with SEC to see if there were alternatives and report back.   Action PSS

2.

Payphones:  BT had informed the Council that, following a review of the 5 payphones in the Parish, 3 are making a loss.  Of these they plan to remove those in Marine Parade and at the junction between Newsome Avenue and Lodway, but to keep the one at Sambourne Lane as a “social commitment”.  It was considered that the Marine Parade phone would be more appropriate for the “social commitment” and the Clerk was asked to write to this effect.   Action PSS

3.

St Mary’s School, Portbury:  An application for a donation towards the cost of a new boiler was turned down.   Action PSS

4.

Community Centre:  A letter about new asbestos regulations had been received from the Youth Club.  It asked whether an assessment had been carried out and whether there was asbestos present in the building.  It was agreed that action was required on this and that NSC should be asked who their contacts were.  Also, Cllr Burchell would ask a contact of his to quote for doing an assessment. The Clerk would also write to GCP Architects to see if they had any information which could help.   Action GD/KB/PSS
